New Blog

Hey Guys! I created a new blog. It's http://pacificpastime.blogspot.com/ and THAT is where I will be posting anything to do with art from now on. Please Follow it, I absolutely love blogging and it is just more fun when people are actually reading it! LOL I am really into blogging lately so except lots of posts from me. As for THIS blog, I am thinking of making it a blog all about my favorite subject: FOOD. hehe. I love trying new restaurants, new foods & items at the grocery store. I am a very healthy person but when I have a craving for something you better believe I go find that thing!! I love cooking & baking also so there will probably be some easy, fun, DELICIOUS recipes on here too. I have good taste in food, don't worry. As for outfits of the day and makeup/clothing reviews, things of that nature, I am not sure where to put them for now? Should I make a third blog just for that stuff? Or should I have it on one of these two blogs? I know some people are only going to want to read about art, or food, or fashion. I need a blog name if I do create a third blog. Decisions, decisions...

How do I make YouTube Partner? & My YouTube Story

This was the question I was asking myself months ago when I thought I was qualified for partner but wasn't! I recently made YouTube Partner and it was NOT an east feat! I had been babying my YouTube account "PacificPastime" for one year before I was qualified for partner.

Before I became partner I would go on google and try to search for more answers about being a YouTube Partner and I could never find much reliable info out there. I don't think there is a specific number of subscribers one needs to make YouTube partner. What I DO think is important, is a channels consistency with uploading videos. I know they look for someone who is uploading on a regular basis. Also, I have heard that you need a video with tons of views. Not sure if this is correct. I have one video with over 100k views so it could be true.

Do youtube partners make money? Yes, they have the option of making money off of advertisements on their channel.

How much do YouTube Partners make? Unfortunately, YouTube partners aren't allowed to disclose information about how much they get paid.

I feel like YouTube should come up with a new name for their Partner Program because it really sounds more prestigious than it is! lol! I think a year is a very common length of time for YouTube users to become partner. If you ever plan on making YouTube partner make sure you don't have ANY copyright issues.

The first few weeks/months of my channel, I was thinking I was going nowhere! But the more you upload, and the more you see other videos similar to yours, you learn new things and come up with new ideas and your videos will get better and better. I look back at the first videos I made (which, at the time, I thought were BADASS) and cringe lol. Not only have I gotten better at making videos but I have become a better drawer! And youtube has led me to other things. I started an Etsy account and some of the people who have bought portraits from me said they found me from my YouTube channel! I remember watching the news about a year ago and they were talking about all these YouTube beauty guru's and how they make lots of money and get sent products for review and they news anchor said "if you know how to do something interesting, make a tutorial video on how to do it and you could make money" and right then I was like hmmm....what do I know how to do? At first I was thinking of doing makeup videos. But I thought, I don't want to put my face out there, I'll use my friends face and I will do the makeup! So after a few weeks a told my friend that we could make money eventually and asked her to let me do her makeup on camera and she agreed. So we did the first video and it was good, and I edited it REALLY nice, or so I thought. And I showed my family and everybody thought it was so cool! But that didn't last because she wasn't as into it as I was & I felt like I was begging so I decided to try something more on my own. And I came across some drawing videos, and I knew I wasn't nearly as good as some of them but I thought I'd do it anyways. So I did it and people liked them, and I thought it was fun and the rest is history. Haha, I sound like I've hit the jackpot or something. No no no. I've just gotten to the point where lots of people are subscribed to me and look forward to my videos and tell me my videos made them try drawing and they weren't as bad as they thought which is AWESOME! I love all the sweet comments I get from kids and teenagers. They make my day. So if any of my subscribers are reading this Thank YOU! I love yall!!!!!!

Showtime Series: DEXTER Review!

I turned on my Wii one day and noticed there was a box to click and it said Netflix. I have already had a Netflix free trial before but I thought hmm, what is this. So I clicked and soon found out that I could watch Netflix movies and shows straight from my Wii, without having to wait for the actual DVD to come to my house or turning on my computer to watch something. So I thought that was really cool. I ended up going ahead and doing another month long free trial.

One of the first things I decided to watch was Dexter. I started with Season 1 Episode one and I am on Season 4 Episode 8 right now. I am totally HOOKED on this show! When I first realized what it was about (a serial killer) I thought that was kind of morbid and scary and I wasn't sure if I wanted to be watching something like that so much, but the more I watched it the better it got. The story line is like some of the best thriller movies you've seen. It gets more and more complex as the season moves along. And lucky for me I had all the episodes at my fingertips so I watched Season one like it was a 234986 hour long movie. I got hooked after season 1. The first two seasons were amazing. The second season was a little slow in the beginning, but towards the end it definitely got my attention. I'm on season 4 right now and it's pretty damn good. You can actually find the episodes for free online without having to download anything. Netflix doesn't offer Season 3,4 & 5 on my wii and it takes too long to order one dvd, watch it, send it back, wait for the next one. Because one dvd only comes with about 3 episodes. So I just decided to try to find the episodes online. You really have to search. And search by episode name, it helps. But they are out there.

Anyways, if you are bored with the shows you are watching and are looking for a new exciting show to watch, DEFINITELY go for Dexter. He don't disappoint ;-)D

Home Made Tamales for the Holidays! (lots of PICS!)

My fathers mother was Sicilian and his father is Mexican. So he had a lot of good food growing up. One thing he always talks about that his mom used to make is her tamales. She did them different than most Mexicans do it though. She used vegetables along with the meat. We haven't made these tamales in years but I begged my parents to do it this year and I got my way! Yay! I, of course, helped because making home made tamales is not an easy task! It takes a lot of time! And the more people to help out the better. My brother insisted he "hates" tamales so he didn't want anything to do with the process but my mom, dad and I made a little assembly line and made 40 tamales in probably about an hour! If you are interested in our recipe here are the ingredients you will need:

(I do not know exact amounts, but that is not very important with this recipe.

For the Masa (the outside part of tamales):
-about a plastic grocery bag filled with masa
-1 can La victoria Enchilada Sauce

For Chicken filling:
- 2 whole chickens
- 1 can La Victoria Enchilada Sauce
-1 red onion
-1 tomato
-1 yellow & 1 green pepper (not bell peppers, the hot ones)
- chicken broth
-garlic

For INSIDE tamales:
-fresh, frozen or canned green beans
-1 can garbanzo beans
-zuccini
-potatos
-jalapenos
-tomatos
-olives
-the shredded chicken filling

You will also need as many corn husks as tamales you plan on making. We made 40 so that's how many corn husks we needed. You use the corn husk to wrap the uncooked tamale so it stays together & forms while it is steaming

So as you can see here my dad is just mushing the enchilada sauce in with the masa with his hands. Mix well.

And you should have it all ready in an assembly line to make it easier. From the left we had (large container of shredded chicken) zuccini, tomatos, garbanzo beans, green beans, jalapenos, olives & potatos!

corn husks:)

Placement is not very important. If you like more of one thing, load it up. After we made them we all agreed we could have used more jalapenos. We put one of each item in each tamale. We also agreed that we could have put more chicken filling! If you don't like chicken you can use pork or anything else you want!

There are a few different ways of wrapping a tamale. We just randomly decided to wrap ours like this. Just make sure there is masa all around the fillings and it is wrapped nice and tight!

We made 40, because when it takes THIS much effort to cook something we like to have left overs :)

After they are all done you can start steaming them. I think we steamed ours for about two hours. Of course, not all of them will fit in one pot so it took all day to do 40 tamales. Two hours per batch. You can take one out and test it. But it will be better once it cools.
We didn't have a big steamer pot so what my mom did was she took her regular big pot and one of those reusable pie tin things and poked about 10 holes in it. she set it on the bottom on top of this other stand she had to it was a little higher off the bottom of the pan and filled the pan with water until the bottom of the pie tin. She set as many tamales she could in the pot. It is VERY VERY important to make sure the pot never runs out of water. It will evaporate so every 20 or 30 min you need to pour a little water in the pot from the side, make sure not to get the tamales wet or they will be soggy.

How to make the shredded chicken:

Boil two whole chicken in water with some chicken broth and garlic as well. After they are cooked, let them cool. In the meantime, Sautee a red onion, and the two peppers, & tomato until soft. Then go back to the chicken and take it off the bones and shred it! Add that to the sauteed stuff and then add one can of the La Victoria. Also add about a cup chicken broth. Let that cook for hours. We did ours the day before.

SO, Yes this is very time consuming and complicated but after it's all done it's totally worth it! If you try my recipe, I hope you enjoy! XO :)

Isn't he adorbs????!!!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet+ Foundation

I ordered this foundation from Sephora after I saw it on MakeupByTiffanyD's YouTube channel. It looked to yellow on her skin so I thought it would be perfect for me. Every single foundation I have ever tried has been to pinkish for my skin and it make's me look like a clam! I also knew that this foundation was oil-free, which is a plus for me because I have oily acne prone skin. I tried a few swatches on my arm as you can see and actually the camera is making it look better than it looks in real life. My arm IS much whiter than my face so it looks too dark for me but I put it on my face and it seems to be the right shade, just not the right color. It's a little to orangey and red for me. I got shade 40 because that is what MakeupbyTiffanyD had and I thought well she might be paler than me but I'd rather have foundation too light than too dark. I do really like the feel of this foundation though...it is not oily AT ALL. And it is super soft. It feels great on my skin! But the color is just not right.
